| Description | 1950s Prince Bira helmet. An original Herbert Johnson racing helmet, in typical shellac construction painted in trademark blue. This helmet has the face shield/visor and shows wear. According to information supplied by the original vendor this helmet was given by Bira to his mechanic Les Wilson. It's offered together with a signed photograph given by Bira to Wilson. What a wonderful item from the only F1 driver to originate from Bangkok, Thailand (formerly Siam). Prince Birabongse was known mostly for racing E.R.A. & Maserati (8CM, 4CL, 4CLT/48), though he also raced for Riley, Osca, Delage & Gordini from 1935-1954. Above is a photo of Prince Bira wearing an identical helmet at the 1954 French GP at Rheims while driving the Maserati 250F. |
